Learning biostatistics in public.
I am working through biostatistics, quantitative genetics, and machine-learning-driven genomics from the ground up, and writing down what I understand as I understand it. The essays live on Substack. The interactive pieces live here, where I can build the thing I am trying to learn and let you poke at it too.
Why learn in public? Writing for an audience forces me to turn a vague feeling of "I think I get it" into a claim I can defend. If an explanation is hand-wavy here, it is hand-wavy in my head. The visualizations are the same idea in another medium: if I can make the math move, I probably understand the math.

Built with D3. Each one lets you change an assumption and watch the consequence, because that is how the intuition actually sticks.

Population genetics
Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium & genetic drift
Drag the allele frequency and watch the expected genotype proportions respond, then shrink the population and watch random drift take over. Small populations wander; large ones hold steady.
